The countdown has started for #HI, and just two days to go before Kavin and Nayanthara’s much-anticipated romantic entertainer arrives in theatres. The film will be released worldwide on 28 August 2026 and advance bookings in India are now open, and Tamil cinema audiences can say yes for sure. The filmmakers had already announced the date of August 28 when the film was moved from its original August 14 release schedule.

Directed by Vishnu Edavan, HI is his first film as directorial debut from work with filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj and associate director of films such as Kaithi, Master and Vikram. The connection with Lokesh has also made the film curious about Lokesh's connection to the film, but HI has the added bonus of being a romantic and family-friendly entertainment film and not an action movie.
The film's main attraction is most likely the duo of Kavin and Nayanthara and their first face-to-face encounter. Their unusual combination has already become one of the movie’s major talking points. Kavin has also described working with Nayanthara as a special moment in his career and the movie is all about the chemistry of the two on-screen.
The new trailer has also given more insight into the central theme of the film. Kavin is an emotionally troubled and lonely young man, and Nayanthara is an eccentric and different person in the film. The trailer suggests that relationships, love and emotional bonds will be fun (as well as light-hearted).
The film is expected to be different from what Vishnu Edavan and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s fans know. Rather than an action film, the director has picked a family entertainment and love story to tell on the set. The movie is told in Chennai, Coimbatore and Pollachi and has a very Tamil cultural flavour.
The supporting cast also adds a lot of strength to the project. Veteran actors like Radhika Sarathkumar, K. Bhagyaraj, and Prabhu are also in the film, with Radhika playing the role of Kavin’s mother. Since it’s a family-oriented film, they all get to work.
Music is another part of HI. Jen Martin, who wrote music for films like Dada and Kiss, composed the music. His collaboration with Kavin has already earned him fans who have seen the soundtrack of the movie and the film’s songs and promotional material.
The project is supported by 7 Screen Studio and Zee Studios South and The Rowdy Pictures. The combination of a famous young actor, one of Tamil film’s biggest female stars, an experienced supporting cast and a debutant director with a strong filmmaking background has made HI one of the most eagerly awaited releases of the week.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s positive contribution is also a huge boost for the film. After watching the trailer, the filmmaker publicly congratulated Vishnu Edavan and wrote: “Vishnu Edavan has made me proud,” he said. It was received with much interest because of their professional relationship and added another dimension of interest for the release of the film.
And with bookings now open, the immediate focus is on the film’s opening-day response. Early bookings can give you an indication of audience interest, especially for a star pairing that has generated considerable curiosity before release.
Kavin’s HI is another step in his development as a leading actor. With the kind of success he’d gained with films like Dada and so on, the expectations were only going to get higher for him to decide on scripts. Sharing the screen with Nayanthara also allows him the opportunity to bring his work out to a wider audience.
And for Nayanthara, the film is another chance to explore a romantic and family-oriented character with a younger-generation Tamil actor. The contrast between the two leads is one of the things that has been the most talked about since the project was announced.
At the heart of the promotional campaign is August 28. The trailer has been released, bookings are in place, and only two days left for the theatrical premiere, HI is ready to meet audiences.
If the film will deliver the emotional and entertaining experience promised by its trailer, the Kavin-Nayanthara combination might well become one of the talking points of the upcoming weekend.
For now, the countdown is on: two more days to say “HI” to Kavin and Nayanthara on the big screen.
