Jana Nayagan Was First Offered to Another Actor Before CM Vijay, Reveals Director H Vinoth
Thalapathy Vijay's much awaited film ‘Jana Nayagan’ is one of the most eagerly awaited Tamil movies that is generating a lot of buzz among Tamil people before the film is going to be released on July 23.
The film, headed by H Vinoth, has gotten more attention because it is a stage in Vijay’s public and political life. Vijay is now the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu so the political drama is played out in Vijay.
However, according to director H Vinoth, the film was not originally written with Vijay as the first actor in mind.
In an interview with Cinema Vikatan, Vinoth said he narrated the film to another actor before approaching Vijay. The filmmaker did not say the actor’s name but recalled the actor seemed reluctant to take part in the project.
Vinoth described the film as a political story and narrated the first half of the script. In the conversation, according to the director, the actor had asked whether such a film would work in the region. This is when the director said the actor showed no confidence to advance the project.
Vinoth said the actor’s hesitation ultimately prevented the collaboration from moving forward. The filmmaker then went on to develop the project with Vijay.
‘Don’t See Jana Nayagan as Vijay’s Last Film’
H Vinoth has also advised audiences not to view Jana Nayagan as Vijay’s last film as an actor. Instead, he suggested that the film should be viewed as the first film of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.
The director has repeatedly said the movie ‘Jana Nayagan’ is not just a commercial entertainment. Vinoth says the film has political themes and has been made to provoke discussion and not just to celebrate or glorify the lead actor.
He thinks even people with a background in politics would have to speak up about the issues raised in the film when they see it.
Why Jana Nayagan’s Box Office Cannot Be Compared
He also said the box office performance of Jana Nayagan should not be compared with a regular commercial movie.
The film has been subject to circumstances that make its release not a regular theatrical project, Vinoth wrote. The release schedule has been delayed and the film has also attracted an intense public and political response.
Vijay plays alongside Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol in this film. Prakash Raj and Gautham Vasudev Menon are among the supporting cast.
Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander and the film is produced by KVN Productions. There are also reports that the movie was made on a budget of ₹300 crore, but this is not confirmed.
With Vijay's political career now taking an unusual dimension to the film’s release, *Jana Nayagan* will attract an audience beyond Tamil cinema’s usually mainstream audience.
