Mani Ratnam has officially started shooting for his new Tamil romantic drama in Kolkata as lead actors for the very first time. The perfect match has generated a lot of buzz among cinema lovers in the area of the creative director and one of India's most celebrated filmmakers.
The Kolkata schedule began last week and is set up at some of the city's most historic locations including the historic Howrah Bridge and Jagannath Ghat. Photos and videos from the sets have emerged online where Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi are seen filming emotional and romantic scenes in the city. One of the most talked about scenes is the duo rehearsing a rooftop dance sequence overlooking the Hooghly River and there is a lot of interest in the film.
The project of Mani Ratnam, who is back in love with the romance genre after Thug Life in 2025, is a fresh romantic entry for him. His masterful work on long-running love stories like Mouna Ragam, Roja, Bombay, Alaipayuthey and OK Kanmani has always had a strong emotional pull on the audience that they’ve found in. So fans are hopeful that his latest project will do the same, but with a different kind of modern love story.
The film's music is also being composed by Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman. The Mani Ratnam–Rahman partnership has produced some of the most memorable soundtracks of Indian cinema. Once again, they have teamed up for an emotional album of deep-reaching melodies and powerful background music to take the emotional depth in the film.
Vijay Sethupathi, well known for his versatility and unexpected roles, is going to play a character with a lot of emotional complexity.
