Thalapathy Vijay has added another box office blockbuster as his latest political action drama Jana Nayagan was launched to over ₹78-80 crore around the world on the first day. This is the biggest opening for a Tamil movie in 2026 and indicates Vijay’s great popularity in India and overseas.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay as a former police officer who takes on a corrupt political system. The film also stars Pooja Hegde as the lead and Bobby Deol as the antagonist, and Anirudh Ravichander’s music has made the release a little more entertaining.
Tamil Nadu was the film's largest market and theatres were full of people in the early morning. Trade estimates of the film (around ₹37 crore net revenue) on its opening day, the film attracted 40 lakhs of fans in the state. It attracted fans from all over the country who gathered outside theaters to celebrate the film with drum performances, fireworks and special fan shows, and the film's debut was a big festival.
