Why Vijay Chose Bhagavanth Kesari Remake Over H. Vinoth's Original Script for Jana Nayagan
The anticipation is on with the release date for Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan, and as we are moving towards it, new pictures have emerged which have revealed why the director made one of the most creative choices for this project. The film, directed by H. Vinoth, is to be Vijay’s last movie before he moves into politics. The actor has selected a partial remake of the Telugu blockbuster Bhagavanth Kesari instead of an entirely original script initially developed by the director.
Vinoth’s original story was considered too intense
H. Vinoth first narrated a completely original action drama to Vijay, industry reports say. The script featured a darker tone, high-stakes conflicts and an emotionally charged story. Vijay loved the idea but felt that it was too heavy for him to make his last shot on the big screen before he went to work and started his full-time political career.
Vijay, instead of following the original version, suggested some elements from Bhagavanth Kesari, the 2023 Telugu blockbuster with Nandamuri Balakrishna.
A Partial Remake with Fresh Additions
According to sources, Jana Nayagan is not a scene-by-scene remake. The film has, in fact, borrowed about 50% of Bhagavanth Kesari's original in the first half of the film and only 20% is based on the Telugu original. The remaining parts have been rewritten by H. Vinoth to suit Vijay's screen image and Tamil audience.
The process allows the film to retain the emotional core of the original but to add new characters, action sequences and political aspects that are in sync with Vijay's persona.
Vijay wanted a theme that represented his vision.
The film’s message seems to be the main reason behind Vijay’s decision. The women empowerment aspect of Bhagavanth Kesari is believed to have impressed Vijay, the character was something the actor felt fit for him given his public image and political beliefs too.
Director H. Vinoth, who has previously made the Hindi courtroom drama Pink into Tamil film Nerkonda Paarvai, agreed to rework the project after Vijay explained why the theme was important for his final film.
Star-Studded Cast Builds Excitement
Jana Nayagan also features Pooja Hegde as the female lead, and Bobby Deol is expected to play the main antagonist. The movie received huge attention as Vijay's last cinema performance before he gets into active politics.
Following recent promotional updates on the remake news, social media has been flooded with talk about the remake reports. Some fans have been upset Vinoth’s original idea may never have been seen but others say the emotional and socially relevant storyline will appeal more to family and mass viewers.
With Jana Nayagan coming on July 23, expectations are sky high. If the remake elements and new storytelling help produce another blockbuster is the main question for Tamil cinema fans?
