H Vinoth on Jana Nayagan Changes: 'The Censor Board Didn't Allow Us to Modify the Story'
Director H. Vinoth addressed speculation regarding changes made to Jana Nayagan after the recent election result. When asked if the film was changed after the political situation became clear, the filmmaker explained, “They were not allowed to make significant changes.”
H. Vinoth said that although there was discussion of possible changes, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not allow the makers to change the film's core narrative or message. The censor board made it clear that only minor edits would be allowed, the director said.
"We couldn't change it. The Censor Board didn't allow it. They gave clear instructions that only minor changes could be made, and the story and message should not be modified," H. Vinoth said.
His statement puts to rest speculation that the makers may have revised aspects of Jana Nayagan after the election result as it may have been to reflect the changing political situation. The film has been under great scrutiny ever since the film’s release and some of the scenes were altered before release.
H. Vinoth also made comparisons with the leaked version of the film and the version that was eventually censored. He said that a few new elements have been added but they are not significant changes to the storyline.
"Compared to the leaked version, there are a few new additions that weren’t cut by the censor this time," he said, which indicates that the whole story remains faithful to the original vision.
Jana Nayagan, with Vijay playing the lead role, has generated huge fanfare as it is widely believed to be the actor’s last film before he fully enters politics. And so far, it’s been one of the most talked-about Tamil releases of the year with fans closely following the content, certification, and release of its film.
H. Vinoth’s clarification today reassures audiences that despite the rumours and political speculation, Jana Nayagan remains true to the original story and intended message. And with just minor edits approved by the censor board, the film should remain faithful to the director’s vision when it comes to movie theatres.
