The Traitors Season 2 is close to its completion and the contestants are under pressure to find out who remain as Traitors and to protect their own positions in the game. Krystle D’Souza has been one of the players who has managed to stay calm in the face of these twists and alliances and ever more suspicion. Her approach has been appreciated by host Karan Johar too who said: “she is very smart.”
Krystle is a much more low-key actor compared to contestants who frequently find themselves on the receiving end of arguments and accusations and heated arguments. But her quieter nature hasn’t meant that she is inactive. She has watched the dynamics in the house evolve, observed relationships and made a good decision when the opportunity came her way.
The latest episode of Karan Johar pointed out Krystle’s strategy throughout the competition. In fact, he praised her for playing the game with accuracy and not getting distracted by the suspicion of others. “You have played very, very smart game,” he said. Krystle has been able to survive when there are so many things that can go wrong in a competition and one wrong move can be the most critical.
Krystle’s strategy was most successful in the Circle of Shaq when suspicion was directed at her closest friend Rhea Chakraborty. Rather than putting herself at risk by aggressively defending Rhea, Krystle allowed the talk to take place. This way, she could be kept away from the controversy and not be directly targeted by others who were dissecting Rhea’s behaviour.
The strategy became an even more important one when Shahneel Gill was exposed and eliminated by the Innocents. With Shahneel out of the game, Krystle became the last remaining Traitor. This placed her in a very tricky position as the remaining contestants were more and more obsessed with the discovery of who was secretly working against them.
Krystle, however, had a chance to recruit another contestant and used it to further her position. Rida Tharana was a contestant who had already been determined to find out the identities of the Traitors. Krystle took a risk in that decision and she turned someone who might have been a threat into a partner in the game.
Krystle’s ability to make those kind of decisions without generating excessive suspicion has been one of the central ingredients of her work on "The Traitors 2". She doesn’t try to control the conversation as much as she tries to wait until the right time or when they are least likely to happen and that’s allowed her to remain relevant and not be subject to the sort of attention that can quickly become dangerous in the reality show's high-pressure environment.
The episode also included an emotional recall by Mallika Sherawat of Shahneel Gill. Mallika recalled a conversation she had with Shahneel and how much she had come to believe she loved her in their time together. Mallika recalled telling Shahneel that if she was revealed to be a Traitor, even if she was just a joke, it was going to break her heart, because she had come to regard her like a sister.
Mallika recalled Shahneel’s reply in which Shahneel denied being a Traitor and referred to her brother as a cricket captain. This conversation revealed even more about the personal bonds among contestants that existed despite the deceptive nature of the competition.
Mallika, at the same time, said she was suspicious of Rhea Chakraborty. According to Mallika, Rhea repeatedly came back to the same points during conversations and was difficult to read. But Shahneel had defended the idea that Rhea could be innocent, suggesting that she might be just trying to change someone’s opinion about her from one that had already been established among the contestants.
When the competition is over for us all, each of the remaining contestants has a very important part to play. The last phase of *The Traitors 2* will be even more about trust and deception and alliances and the ability to read other players. Krystle’s praise from Karan Johar comes at a crucial time especially since she has survived so much through so many rounds and has been keeping her strategy fairly quiet.
Krystle D’Souza, Rida Tharana, Mallika Sherawat and Shalini Passi are among the contestants who made it to the final stage of *The Traitors 2*. Krystle’s calm and composed choices for the final rounds will be one of the biggest talking points of the finale.
Now that the competition is drawing to a close, the audience will closely watch Krystle's carefully-run strategy to see if Krystle can pull it out all the way to the finish. Karan Johar’s recent comment says that her subtlety in her approach is not going to go unnoticed—and in a game based on deception and suspicion, keeping it to the dark for this long might prove to be one of her biggest assets.
