The cinematic universe set up by filmmaker Prasanth Varma is expanding into a much darker and more ambitious domain with Mahakali. Prasanth Varma and RKD Studios have released the film’s first look, called “Shukracharya’s War Cry,” to give a glimpse of the scale, mythology, and conflict that the film will explore.

Akshaye Khanna’s Shukracharya Gives Goosebumps

The makers also announced that Mahakali will be released worldwide in cinemas on January 8th, 2027, during the Sankranthi season. The movie stars Bhoomi Shetty and is another important episode in the larger PVCU or Purana Veera Chitra Udyam of Prasanth Varma.

Akshaye Khanna As Shukracharya Steals The Show

The big surprise of the first glimpse is probably Akshaye Khanna’s portrayal of Shukracharya. The actor is in a completely different avatar and brings a powerful presence to the character.

Shukracharya is a strong character in the Asuras, and his look and presence of mind create an atmosphere of danger without revealing too much about the story.

Akshaye Khanna’s transformation is already making people wonder because the role seems to require a combination of intelligence, power and menace. His portrayal could well become one of the key plot points for Mahakali.

A Darker Chapter In The PVCU

Mahakali’s world is noticeably darker than the mythology-driven fantasy audiences have seen from the PVCU. The glimpse shows a huge battle between the two forces but also implies that the battle is far more than a confrontation between good and evil.

Dark visuals, large-scale environments and imposing character designs create a feeling of imminent destruction. The presentation purposefully keeps several aspects of the story under wraps while establishing the mythology and atmosphere.

The glimpse’s ominous ending also adds to that mystery, suggesting the events depicted could mark the beginning of something much larger.

Bhoomi Shetty Leads The Film

Bhoomi Shetty takes on the lead in Mahakali, adding another important dimension to the project's mythology. While the glimpse is focused on Shukracharya, the larger story will be very much about the central female protagonist.

The project is being positioned as an ambitious expansion of the cinematic world created by Hanu-Man. That film served as the foundation for Prasanth Varma's PVCU, and Mahakali appears to be taking the universe towards a larger mythological canvas.

Sriya Reddy Adds Mystery

Sriya Reddy’s presence in the glimpse is another striking element. Her presence adds another layer of mystery to the story, particularly in the sequence set inside a temple.

The last moment in which she feeds a baby in the temple is eerie and intense. Her fierce expression and the visual treatment of the sequence make it one of the most intriguing portions of the glimpse.

Grand Visual Scale

Mahakali appears to be aiming for a much larger visual scale, with large sets, elaborate production, and ambitious visual effects. The glimpse seems to indicate a desire to create an entirely new mythological world, not just the same ones we know.

The film is directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru, and Prasanth Varma is involved in the project, connecting it to the bigger PVCU vision. The movie is produced by RK Duggal and Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner.

With the first glimpse already stirring some curiosity, Mahakali is filled with expectations. Akshaye Khanna's Shukracharya, Bhoomi Shetty's central role, Sriya Reddy's mystery and the movie's huge mythology could make it a major attraction for Sankranthi 2027.

If the full film manages to deliver on the promise of its first glimpse, Mahakali could become an important and visually ambitious addition to the growing PVCU.
