The debate over Yash’s rise after KGF has returned, and producer Allu Aravind’s earlier comments have drawn a fresh response from the Toxic star. Aravind had questioned Yash’s stature before KGF, asking “Who was Yash before KGF?” and argued that the film’s scale and making made it a nationwide phenomenon.

Yash has now taken on this issue in his recent Toxic promotions, where he made clear that filmmaking is a collaborative process. Instead of speaking directly to the actor, he mentioned the work of directors, writers, technicians, character artists and every other member of a film’s team.

"Cinema is never the work of one person,” Yash said, and when it comes to bringing a film together, the actor is ultimately the face through which all of the team’s efforts are taken to the audience. He also recognized the actor’s role, and said that as long as there is a strong team, the performance must carry the film effectively.

Yash’s comments are of high interest as they are from years after KGF: Chapter 1 transformed his career and established him as a major pan-Indian star. Before KGF, Yash had already built a strong following in Kannada cinema through movies like Googly, Raja Huli, Mr. and Mrs. Ramachari and Masterpiece. But KGF opened his reach far beyond the Kannada-speaking market and made him a nationally known name.

The success of KGF also showed the importance of many parts of the production coming together - Prashanth Neel’s direction, screenplay, production design, music, cinematography, action choreography and Yash’s work with Rocky. The film’s larger-than-life feel helped it resonate with audiences in different languages.

Yash has always maintained that such success is not owned by one person. In another recent discussion he said he was just a part of the filmmaking process and if Toxic succeeds, then the credit should go to everyone who contributed.

Yash’s assertion does not diminish the importance of an actor’s contribution. The artist, he said, carries the collective work onto the screen. Audiences can recognize the output of different talents and make a decision about what is worth appreciating.

This perspective is particularly relevant as Yash prepares for Toxic, his major film following the KGF franchise. Geetu Mohandas is leading this project and it has a very large ensemble cast of Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.

The Toxic team has also faced questions about the project’s scale, production challenges and release plans. Yash has pleaded with audiences to take the film with patience and not to expect a straightforward repetition of the KGF formula.

Meanwhile, the renewed debate over Allu Aravind’s comments has generated a lot of buzz among cinema fans. Yash’s response has not been so much to combat the issue, but rather to frame a larger philosophy of filmmaking: stars are visible, producers provide resources, directors create the vision, and technicians build the world, and the final verdict belongs to the audience.

Now Toxic is at the center of Yash’s career and his comments also show the expectations around the film. After the immense success of KGF, the actor will have to give audiences something new, and again rely on the collective power of a whole film team.

For Yash, the message is clear: cinema is bigger than any individual name and ultimately the audience decides what works.
