Amazon MGM Studios has released the first teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2099, offering fans their first major look at the highly anticipated live-action television continuation of the iconic science-fiction franchise.
The teaser was released at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, a big boost to the Prime Video series which has been developing for nearly five years. The eight-episode limited series is going to debut on November 25, 2026.
The series stars Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh in the lead roles; Dimitri Abold, Matthew Needham, Daniel Rigby and Lewis Gribben are also present. *Shining Girls* writer and show producer Silka Luisa is leading the project.
Set 50 years after the story of Blade Runner 2049, the series returns to a futuristic Los Angeles with a world that has been rebuilt, where humanity may no longer be in control. The new story will examine the franchise’s long-standing themes of identity, artificial intelligence, humanity, and the blurred lines between humans and Replicants.
The story follows Cora, a fugitive who is trying to escape her past by adopting one final identity - a Blade Runner. Her journey will take her to Olwen, a Replicant who is about to end her life. The two will try to find a runaway whose secret could threaten the delicate equilibrium of their town.
Though the first teaser hides some of the key story points, it shows the franchise’s familiar visual style (neon-lit cityscapes, advanced technology and a dark, noir-like atmosphere) in full effect. And the footage also indicates that the series will continue the distinctive cinematic style that has defined the *Blade Runner* universe for decades.
Blade Runner 2099 will be the first live-action television series set in the franchise’s universe. Ridley Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner is based on Philip K. Dick’s novel *Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?* Harrison Ford played Rick Deckard, a police officer tasked with hunting down rogue Replicants.
And in 2017, *Blade Runner 2049*, which is a highly praised film from Denis Villeneuve, starred Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in the lead roles and continued the exploration of consciousness, identity, and what it means to be human.
Amazon MGM Studios had kept much of *Blade Runner 2099* under wraps since the project was first announced, so the release of the teaser was an emotional moment for fans. A fresh story, a new generation of characters, and a timeline set decades after the events of the previous film will be presented in the series in November 2026, and will take the franchise into an unexplored era when it arrives on Prime Video.
