Coleman played Noah Bennet, Panettiere’s on-screen father, in an emotional tribute to Panettiere as an actress with great talent, as well as a kind heart, and a bond they formed in the NBC series.

Panettiere died on August 16, 2026. She was most famous for playing Claire Bennet, the seemingly unstoppable cheerleader at the heart of Heroes. Her character became one of the show’s most recognizable characters, particularly through the phrase, “Save the cheerleader, save the world.”

The actress was just 16 when Heroes began in 2006 and quickly became one of TV’s most recognizable young stars.

Coleman recalled meeting Panettiere in the production of the Heroes pilot. He remembered her youthful energy and remarkable ability as an actress, how fast she could access powerful emotions for her performances.

Her professional relationship developed into a warm connection that continued long after the series ended.

Coleman also reflected on the dark side of Panettiere’s early fame. He made a point of slamming the excessive media and paparazzi attention she was getting as a teenager and said young performers shouldn’t have been subjected to so much invasive and inappropriate treatment.

He said the pressure surrounding her was very bad and regretted she had been subject to so much attention at such a young age.

Coleman remembered Panettiere as more than a great actress but a person who was compassionate and committed to good causes. He talked about her caring nature and commitment to animal welfare.

What he wrote also told us was someone who was emotionally sensitive to her feelings as well as to the pressure of fame.

Panettiere’s career extended well beyond Heroes. She later gained widespread recognition for playing Juliette Barnes in the television drama Nashville and received two Golden Globe nominations for her role. She also starred as Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise and made films, television and voice acting.

Her death has brought out an outpouring of tributes from former colleagues and friends. Heroes creator Tim Kring also remembered Panettiere as an inspiration and a joy to work with, underscoring the impact she had on the series and the people around her.

The circumstances of Panettiere’s death are still under investigation, authorities said. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said they found her unresponsive and in cardiac arrest and no signs of trauma the cause and manner of death are still under investigation.

For Coleman and many Heroes fans, Panettiere will be linked to Claire Bennet, the character whose resilience became a defining part of the series. His emotional farewell is another marker of how the actress impacted those who knew and worked with her all the while.
