YouTube star MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, married the other content creator Thea Booysen in a private wedding ceremony on billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson’s private Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands.
The couple, both 28, exchanged vows in front of 70 close friends and family members after more than a week on the island celebrating their love life.
The celebrations started on July 14 and included kitesurfing, snorkelling and getting to know the island’s wildlife. The couple and their guests also met lemurs and flamingos during the week-long celebration, People reported.
Although MrBeast is the most famous YouTube creator and one of the world’s most successful people, his wedding was private and for close family and friends.
Booysen wore a custom gown designed by Nicole + Felicia Couture for the ceremony, and Donaldson had a classic Ralph Lauren tuxedo.
The ceremony was officiated by a family friend who is also an ordained minister.
The party continued after the couple made their vows and the newlyweds made their grand entrance at the reception and danced to “Die With a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, the popular song.
Sushi, Wagyu beef and fresh seafood were served on a grand menu for the party. The wedding cake was also customised for Booysen, featuring her favourite recipe and flavour—carrot cake.
The evening continued late into the night when a live band performed for the guests. Later the couple and their guests were able to enjoy board games and card games and dinner at the main house.
Booysen described some of the activities as “nerdy”, reflecting the couple’s apparently fun-loving and informal wedding celebrations.
How MrBeast Met Thea Booysen
Donaldson and Booysen first met in 2022 when the YouTube star visited South Africa, where Booysen is from.
Booysen, a gamer and writer, has previously spoken about being surprised by Donaldson's personality away from his huge online presence.
She said she had thought that YouTubers were mostly defined by an online persona but was surprised to find Donaldson to be a down-to-earth and kind person in real life.
Donaldson proposed to Booysen on Christmas Day in 2024, with both their families present.
The proposal was carefully planned; Donaldson created a distraction before presenting the engagement ring.
In spite of Donaldson's fame and fortune, he had previously made it clear that he wanted his wedding to remain private.
He had said before the ceremony that the event would focus primarily on family and friends rather than a great public spectacle.
As for the wedding itself, Booysen described it as “heaven” and said she was grateful to have so many loved ones gathered in one place.
She added that both she and Donaldson work hard and don’t always get time to spend with their wider families and friends.
The couple’s hope is to make the gathering an annual event, to spend a week with their loved ones.
Although the wedding is a significant moment in their relationship, Booysen said marriage has not fundamentally changed the couple’s bond.
For MrBeast and Thea Booysen, the celebration appeared to have less to do with a lavish celebrity spectacle and more about family, friends and a private memory away from the spotlight.
