Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is generating huge pre-release momentum in Karnataka and the film is one of the all-time top 5 Sandalwood opening day performers based on pre-sales alone.
According to the latest box office update from trade trackers, Toxic has already earned ₹17.1 crore in Karnataka pre-sales and there are two days before its theatrical release. That number has made the highly anticipated Kannada film one of the most celebrated blockbusters in Sandalwood.
The current ranking is KGF Chapter 2 at around ₹35 crore, James at ₹27 crore plus, Kantara Chapter 1 at ₹25.2 crore plus and Vikrant Rona at ₹18.5 crore plus. Toxic is still reported at ₹17.1 crore plus and open for advance sales.
The numbers are especially important because the ₹17.1 crore figure is based on pre-sales, so the movie still has time to add substantially to its advance-booking total before audiences arrive for the first shows.
Recent reports also indicated that there is extremely strong demand for Toxic in Karnataka. Ticket sales in Bengaluru are so brisk that more than 25,000 tickets are being sold per hour shortly after bookings opened. Shows were already filling up fast in the city.
Other advance booking trackers have also shown Karnataka leading the early domestic performance of the film. Karnataka contributed around ₹2.85 crore in advance gross excluding blocked seats at first and more than ₹5.3 crore if blocked seats were included.
The momentum has only picked up since then. Toxic’s advance bookings have already generated ₹21.98 crore globally through its first day of sales, with more than 12 lakh tickets sold in the first 24 hours.
Toxic Targets a Historic Karnataka Opening
The big question now is if Toxic can convert its huge pre-release demand into one of the biggest opening days in Kannada cinema history.
The benchmark is KGF Chapter 2, which started with around ₹35 crore in Karnataka. James and Kantara Chapter 1 are also strong candidates on the list.
Toxic already has ₹20 crore in Karnataka pre-sales which shows that the gap between the Yash-starrer and the existing Top 3 is narrowing. The film still has more time to get advance bookings which will allow it to gain ahead of release.
The performance of the film is particularly remarkable for Yash who is very popular in Karnataka with the success of the KGF franchise. Toxic will be another big theatrical outing for the actor and has created great interest with its huge scale, genre and star-studded cast.
Massive Demand Beyond Karnataka
While Karnataka is still the film’s strongest market, Toxic is also generating strong interest in other territories.
The movie is already on its way to a huge worldwide release and advance bookings are already coming in for the film.
It will be released on August 26, 2026, and has got an A certificate in India.
The strong advance sales suggest that Toxic could see packed houses from the very first shows. Early morning screenings and additional late-night shows are being added in some markets in response to demand.
The ₹17.1 Crore Milestone is Only the Beginning
The reported ₹17.1 crore Karnataka pre-sales milestone puts Toxic in a very good position. The final opening-day ranking will depend on actual theatrical gross collections after the film releases.
Pre-sales are an important indicator of audience interest but they do not automatically determine the final first-day gross. Walk-in audiences, additional bookings, ticket pricing, occupancy and the number of shows can all affect the final figure.
However, the early signs are very encouraging for the Yash-led film.
If the current pace continues through the remaining advance-booking period, Toxic could challenge the ₹18.5 crore Karnataka pre-sales benchmark of Vikrant Rona and move even closer to the higher levels established by Kantara Chapter 1, James and KGF Chapter 2.
For Sandalwood, the development is just another sign of the growth of Kannada cinema on this scale. Films like KGF Chapter 2 and Kantara have already shown the industry can create national theatrical events, and Toxic is now trying to keep that momentum going.
With ₹17.1 crore-plus already achieved in Karnataka pre-sales, two days still remaining and demand continuing to build, all eyes are now on Toxic’s final advance-booking tally.
The real box-office battle starts on August 26— but the Toxic storm has clearly started in Karnataka already.
