Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is also making waves in cinema screenings and the much awaited epic is getting more attention for its performance in IMAX venues.
With demand for Nolan’s latest film growing, some IMAX screens that once showed Toxic are turning to ‘The Odyssey’, highlighting that there is intense competition on premium-format screens.
Directed by Christopher Nolan, “The Odyssey” is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic and follows Odysseus’s long and dangerous journey home after the Trojan War.
The story is filled with mythical creatures, powerful gods, battles, emotional conflicts and a determined hero struggling to reunite with his family.
It’s a major theatrical movie. Nolan shot the film with IMAX cameras;The Odyssey is one of the most ambitious productions ever made for the format.
The decision allows audiences to see its huge landscapes, sea sequences, action scenes and dramatic scenes on such a huge screen.
The increasing interest in The Odyssey has also forced cinemas to put premium screens to the film. IMAX has seen a lot of interest from the audience and there’s been very good ticket sales and screenings sold out in several venues.
Nolan’s performance has only made him one of the filmmakers most closely connected to the IMAX experience.
And Toxic, which had occupied premium cinema screens, is facing a smaller IMAX presence as movie theatres respond to audience demand.

The shift in IMAX screens is a big deal because premium-format theatres are still sparse. When a big movie is doing well, exhibitors typically find it very hard to decide which movies are required to have the most screens and showtimes.
For audiences, the development could mean fewer IMAX opportunities for Toxic, while fans of Nolan’s work might have more opportunities to experience The Odyssey in the format for which it was created.
With its enormous scale, ancient mythology and ambitious visual design, The Odyssey is clearly one of the year’s biggest cinematic spectacles.
Its expansion into IMAX theatres only validates the continued popularity of event movies that push viewers outside and see movies on the biggest screens available.
As the battle for premium screens goes on, Nolan’s The Odyssey seems to be emerging as the big winner; Toxic’s theatrical landscape is changing as well.
