An AI-generated song that started out as a new digital creation became one of the biggest viral music sensations of the year after being featured at the season 2 premiere of *India’s Got Latent*.

It is a song that has become so popular on social media since Contestant Balram Vishwakarma (Rocking Goli) had a really energetic performance on the show.

Young AJ sang and co-wrote the song and the song’s infectious hook soon caught the attention of viewers across the country.

After the premiere, the song became popular and celebrities and influencers started dancing to it. Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari were also dancing to the song, further increasing its visibility among mainstream audiences.

The track has reached more than 500 million cumulative streams and has been used in over one million Instagram Reels.

Social media platforms have since been flooded with dance videos, memes and edited clips featuring the song.

The song’s success has also attracted attention from the music industry. The popular DJ Chetas even asked Balram to play at his shows (the contestant and the track have gone from a TV performance to a huge internet phenomenon).

he Unexpected AI Connection

What is even more unusual about this story is the origin story of the song itself.

Contrary to the assumption that the song was made in a professional studio, we have heard that the song was produced with artificial intelligence by a creator from Nagpur.

Sourabh Pateriya, co-founder of Soundverse AI, said that even the technology’s creators were initially unaware of the song’s existence.

He remembered getting a message from a friend that the track could have been created using AI.

The discovery raised fresh questions about the rapidly changing relationship between artificial intelligence and the music industry.

Can AI Create Emotional Music?

And the viral success of “Chai Ki Tapri” has also reignited a debate about whether artificial intelligence can make music with emotional depth.

Critics contend that AI can generate melodies, lyrics and musical arrangements but does not have the personal experiences, memories and cultural backgrounds that make for human creativity.

But Pateriya has argued that AI should not necessarily be seen as a replacement for musicians.

And because of the technology, he says, he thinks the technical limits to production of music will be eliminated and the artists will be able to concentrate more on storytelling and creativity.

He has compared the potential impact of AI on music to the earlier introduction of synthesizers, which dramatically changed the way music was created without eliminating human musicians.

A New Era For Music?

What does “Chai Ki Tapri” have to do with the shift in how viral music is made and consumed?

AI tools become more accessible and production costs come down so that more people can create and share music.

That would lead to a huge explosion of new sounds, creators and musical experiments.

At the same time, copyright, ownership, originality, the role of human artists, and so on are likely to become increasingly important.

But that is the song’s success so far.

From an AI’s creation to a performance on *India’s Got Latent*, from social media reels to celebrity dance videos “Chai Ki Tapri” has become a cultural moment.

The fast popularity of the music industry is a great example of how the modern music industry can turn an unknown track into a national phenomenon almost overnight.

And as AI is taking over the creative world, the song has already come to seem like a somewhat surprising representation of what the future of music would look like.
